Arizona’s climate, recent advances in solar technology, and an
array of tax and other financial incentives have
combined to create attractive solar energy-related
opportunities for Arizona contractors.

areas that include ROC licensing, contract drafting and enforcement,
mechanics’ and materialmen’s liens, other
protections of prompt payment rights, and resolution of
contract disputes.
As with all types of construction and installation, the
Arizona Registrar of Contractors requires that solar
contractors are properly licensed.
In general, a contractor must qualify as a solar
contractor to install, alter or repair a solar device,
and must hold the license that is appropriate to the
type of solar device being installed.

Related ROC requirements

Contractors holding Residential and Commercial General
Contracting and Remodeling licenses may contract for
solar installations, but all work pertaining to the
installation must be subcontracted to a properly
licensed solar plumbing, air conditioning, boiler,
electrical or swimming pool contractor. Exceptions:
A-General, B-4 General and KA-Dual Engineering Licenses
may perform solar installations.

Roofing tiles that function as solar collectors must
be installed by a C-42, L-42 or K-42 roofing contractor.
However, connection of these tiles to the electrical
system can be performed only by a licensed electrical
contractor.

Roof-mounted solar or other devices that might
compromise the roof components or void the existing roof
warranty might require inspection and/or installation by
a licensed roofing contractor.
